Every Sapling Counts

By Basanti Lama | Senior Philanthropy Officer

Tree Plantation is one of Tewa’s annual fundraising events, first initiated in 2008 to help fight climate change. Through this event, Tewa collaborates with local organizations and grantee partners to care for the saplings after planting. This event is a key part of Tewa’s work in promoting local fundraising to provide grants to women’s organizations and groups in need.

Each year, Tewa sets a goal of planting 700 saplings. However, due to limited planting space this year, only 300 saplings were arranged. This time, the event was held in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Centre (WEC), one of Tewa’s grantee partners. WEC is supporting the care of the planted trees and promoting Analog Forestry—an ecological approach to forest restoration that also benefits local communities economically.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tewa and WEC, outlining basic terms and responsibilities for both parties. The event took place at Jalabinayak Samudayak Ban Upabhokta Samuha, Kirtipur-6, Manjushree Park. With support from Tewa’s grantee partners and Tewa, preparations such as hole digging and logistics were successfully managed.

A total of 300 saplings were planted in the western part of the park. Participants included Tewa’s board members, past presidents, donors (both institutional and individual), community members, and staff (over 100 participants).
Fund Raising from the Event

Target: NRs. 200,000.00 (USD – 1,416.00)
Achieved: NRs. 220,000.00 (USD – 1,558.00)

Conclusion:
Tewa's Annual Tree Plantation 2025 was a successful fundraising and environmental conservation event. With strong community participation, collaboration with the Women Empowerment Centre, and continued donor support, Tewa once again promoted local philanthropy and sustainability.
