IsraAID's team in the Philippines shares:
Dear Friends,
On Thursday, July 6th, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake shook Ormoc City. Another earthquake—this time a magnitude of 5.4—struck again Monday, July 10th. Unfortunately, due to the earthquake, significant portions of the main pipeline supplying water to the farm has been damaged. We are working with local partners to create a short- term solution by laying down new pipe in a safe area and using a gas pump to get water. We are also working with the local university and farmers to establish a more long- term solution by using special pipes from the university that will allow us to establish a safer route for the pipes while using the momentum of the water to allow it to climb uphill, where there is a safer route.
We are also assisting those farmers living in Cabintan who are part of IsraAID's agriculture program by repairing the damaged pipeline which threatens the growth and production of essential crops.
One of IsraAID's interns shares after his first day visiting the farm in Ormoc:
"IsraAID’s support can be visibly seen in the quality and quantity of crops grown. Compared to other farms around the area, the plants growing in this farm are much healthier and bigger.
Not only is this project better for the crops, but it has also dramatically improved the lives of many of the farmers. Their income has increased from this farm, and it has also taught them the technical skills necessary to succeed on their own private farms as well.
The local agronomist, Noelle, is very knowledgeable and has been a huge player in helping make this the reality. Without IsraAID’s support, many farmers would still be using inefficient planting techniques."
We are grateful for your kind support to the farmers!
