Dear Friends,
In recent months, we have been rebuilding schools in Philippine island and mountainous areas devastated by typhoon winds, mud slides and flooding throughout 2022-2023. Our Philippine disaster relief efforts help us to form new relationships with isolated indigenous tribes who are not generally receptive to outside assistance.
With the 2024 typhoon season beginning, we are happy to announce the completion of a metal covered shelter outside our most recent school in North Cotabato Province. The Mini Gym was built for Temporan Elementary School and completed in time to conduct a graduation ceremony under dry conditions!
The labor was provided by volunteer carpenters and other assistants of all ages. In the Philippines this shared labor process is called "bayanihan" in many dialects.
"This is how Bayanihan System works," says field coodinator Miss Renchen. "Eight straight days working in the hot sun. The structure was completed just in time for Graduation Day. Working together, nothing is impossible.
We are blessed to have the funding and support of Asia America Initiative and One World Institute and their donor partners. We are so happy. Thank you!"
We are continuing to find and guide organic school gardens and set up school feeding in these vital program areas. Parents and teachers and supportive volunteers make it happen, showing up cheerfully to work every day.
Asia America Initiative works with communities in remote villages who are difficult to reach. Despite adverse conditions, we continue to assist thousands of families -- Christians, Muslims and Indigenous tribal peoples -- who suffer in desperate conditions. We have been active in more than six provinces located in the three major regions of the 7,000 island Philippine archipelago where hundreds of different cultures thrive and myriad of various languages and dialects are spoken.
