Philippines Earthquake Relief Fund

Summary

An extremely powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Mindanao in the Philippines. This comes barely a week after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines near the province of Cebu. Dozens of people have been killed and thousands of people have been displaced. These are the strongest earthquakes to impact the country in more than a decade. The Philippines Earthquake Relief Fund will provide urgent relief and long-term assistance in the hardest-hit communities.

Challenge

These earthquakes have severely impacted communities across the Philippines. With at least 70 people killed so far, local hospitals are overwhelmed and local authorities have declared a state of calamity. Local GlobalGiving nonprofit partners in the Philippines are moving quickly to help impacted communities and survivors.

Solution

Donations to the Philippines Earthquake Relief Fund will support emergency response efforts across affected regions. Immediate relief will include search and rescue assistance, medical care, food, clean water, and temporary shelter. In the long term, your contribution will help rebuild homes and infrastructure and support local, community-led recovery efforts-especially those focused on overlooked and underserved populations most impacted by the earthquake.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Philippines Earthquake Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary shelter and emergency supplies to displaced families
  • Provide support to front-line workers and search and rescue teams, such as meals and gas
  • Fund long-term recovery needs
  • Meet other needs as they emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
