Play Center for 82 children with cancer in Mexico

Hello, friends, in this report I will talk about the dynamics of visits of a child patient with cancer to the hospital, children with leukemia have a protocol of 120 weekly sessions, outpatient chemotherapy or hospitalization for longer chemotherapy, sometimes injections or pills When they are diagnosed they start with an induction stage, to continue later with the chemotherapy sessions. At this stage the patient arrives at the clinic and goes to the laboratory for a sample taking and if the results are favorable they can receive their chemotherapy, if the results are not as expected then the patient leaves and returns the following week, they can average be about 3 years, however if they have a relapse then the treatment starts from scratch ... other patients reach the latest chemotherapy, after several long years to ... have a relapse and start again in the best of the cases, in the worst scenario the patient dies, the relapses are usually during hospital chemotherapies.

That is why it is very important the part of psychological support, in which the patient or parents can express their concerns, their doubts or fatigue, they are aware of their disease and many are for many years in treatment.

But very important is the part of the distraction during your stay in ambulatory or hospitalization or during the wait. Television, music, movies, books, games are faithful companions throughout their process.

The activities that are currently carried out for children and young people with cancer of the Oncopediatrics Clinic consist of making psychological profiles to each patient (between 2 and 18 years) to later provide them with free sessions of grapho therapy. The profiling is carried out by students of the Psychology career of the Forensic Institute of Latin American Research AC.,

The grapho therapy is directed by the Director of the aforementioned university. The grapho therapy is an integral therapeutic technique that consists of a scriptural education of letters or strokes, with the purpose of modifying the affective functioning of the person being able to correct certain negative aspects in behaviors and recognized for its excellent therapeutic results.

With these exercises it is possible to generate new conditioned reflexes in the functioning of the brain, useful for the management of depression, stress, hyperactivity, social relations, integration problems, learning and behavior, in children and adolescents, adults allow them to develop in a comprehensive and positive some behavioral traits that want to improve or change.

Being not dependent on the therapist, since it works through simple activities determined in each session and derived from the results of the individual profiling, which the patient can perform both in the Hospital and at home.

There are five initial sessions to obtain the psychological profile of each patient, after the expert in grapho therapy explain to parents what the patient can change by this therapy. 

It is estimated about 4 months to conclude this phase with patients, It is very important to mention that is a free service to parents and patients.

But this is a continuous process, and from the results we can know more about each patient and how our services can improve to make your stay more bearable.
