Dear Esteemed Donors,
Warm greetings from the Humanitarian Relief and Development Council (HRDC)!
We are pleased to share the latest progress update for our project, “Educational Support for Orphaned Girls in Somalia.” Thanks to your continued generosity, 20 orphaned girls are not only staying in school but are growing in confidence, academic strength, and personal development.
Your support remains a lifeline for these vulnerable girls.
Project Update (October 2025 – January 2026)
During this reporting period, HRDC focused on sustaining school attendance, strengthening academic performance, and enhancing psychosocial support for all 20 beneficiaries.
1. Continued School Retention
• 100% school attendance maintained among all 20 girls.
• No dropouts recorded despite economic challenges affecting their households.
• Regular follow-ups conducted with school administrators and guardians.
2. Academic Support
• Provision of additional learning materials for mid-term examinations.
• Extra tutoring sessions organized for students needing additional support.
• Noticeable improvement in literacy and numeracy skills among younger students.
• 6 girls ranked within the top 10 positions in their classes this term.
3. Mentorship & Life Skills Development
• Monthly mentorship sessions continued, focusing on:
0.Self-confidence and leadership
0. Personal hygiene and health awareness
0. Goal setting and future career aspirations
• Female mentors from the community volunteered to guide and inspire the girls.
The girls are showing remarkable growth in communication skills and classroom participation.
4. Well-being & Protection Monitoring
• Regular home visits conducted to ensure safe learning environments.
• Ongoing engagement with guardians to encourage consistent educational support.
• Reinforcement of safeguarding measures to protect the girls’ well-being.
Impact Story
One of our beneficiaries, a 13-year-old student who previously struggled with low confidence, is now actively participating in class discussions and recently expressed her ambition to become a teacher. Her transformation reflects the power of consistent educational and emotional support.
Challenges
Despite progress, families continue to face:
• Economic hardship due to limited income opportunities
• Rising cost of school materials
• Transportation challenges for some students
However, with your support, we have been able to prevent these challenges from interrupting the girls’ education.
Looking Ahead (February – May 2026)
In the coming months, HRDC plans to:
• Continue full school support for all 20 girls
• Provide examination preparation materials
• Organize a small career guidance workshop
• Explore digital learning opportunities where possible
• Assess potential expansion to support additional orphaned girls
Gratitude to Our Supporters
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all GlobalGiving donors. Your kindness is restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity to girls who once faced an uncertain future.
Because of you, these young girls are not just attending school — they are building dreams.
Together, we are nurturing Somalia’s next generation of educated and empowered women.
With sincere gratitude,
HRDC Team
