Welcoming 2026 with Gratitude

By WJI | Women's Justice Initiative

As we welcome 2026, we want to take a moment to reflect on a year of meaningful growth and to thank the community that makes our work possible. 2025 was a year of tremendous accomplishments for WJI.

Your support helped adolescent girls in rural communities access justice, live with dignity, and build brighter futures for themselves. 343 girls graduated from the Adolescent and Girls program last year. Gaining knowledge about their rights, self-esteem, and communication skills. The team worked with parents and community leaders to transform norms and ensure they take action to delay early marriage. After more than a decade of successfully providing free legal services, WJI has expanded our model to include psychological care and mental health support. WJI’s licensed psychologist provides free and culturally pertinent services in the local language to survivors of violence, including child marriage, and sexual and domestic abuse. By integrating psychological support into our programming, we are meeting ’ needs of the girls we serve by building more responsive and holistic systems of care. Your partnership continues to be at the heart of everything we do, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

A New Chapter for WJI:
Expanding to Sololá In 2025, WJI embarked on an exciting new chapter by expanding our work beyond Chimaltenango into the neighboring department of Sololá. Over the past decade, WJI has grown from a small, grassroots initiative to a trusted presence in 123 communities. Along the way, we have strengthened our legal empowerment methodology, and our team is now ready to bring our services to thousands more women and girls across the Maya-Kaqchikel region.
In 2026, we will reach over 2,000 women and girls in Sololá with our impactful programs. We can’t wait to share more about this expansion in the year ahead. And in case you missed it, we’re also sharing our recent Institutional Video, which highlights the impact you helped make possible, Wishing you a peaceful and joyful start to the new year.

With immense gratitude,
The WJI Team
