By Clive Nyapokoto | Zimbabwe Farmer
In the past three months, the drought in Zimbabwe has continued to place immense strain on vulnerable communities. Many families are struggling daily just to find enough water for basic needs.
Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to install two solar-powered boreholes that now provide safe, reliable water to over 500 households. This has made a real difference in reducing the time and effort families spend fetching water, and it has brought relief to many children and elders.
We have also supported families in setting up rainwater harvesting systems using simple, locally made storage tanks. These small steps are helping households collect and store water when rains come, easing the hardship during dry periods.
Alongside these efforts, we have trained community members on hygiene and water management, helping to protect families from waterborne illnesses that are common during droughts.
At the same time, we face significant challenges. Funding shortages have slowed the repair and expansion of critical water infrastructure. And the ongoing drought, one of the worst in decades, means that the need for clean water and support has never been greater.
Looking ahead, we are focused on securing the resources to maintain existing boreholes, expand rainwater harvesting projects, and introduce water education programs in local schools. These steps will help communities not only survive but build resilience against future water crises.
