1. Context
The promotion of human rights and justice is a key driver for social development and stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In response to persistent challenges in this area, OGDH ASBL initiated a project aimed at raising awareness among youth in neighborhoods and communes of Bukavu, South Kivu. The project seeks to equip young people with knowledge on human rights and justice, empowering them to play a vital role in the social development of their communities.
2. Project Objectives
- General Objective:Promote justice and human rights by engaging youth as key agents of social change.
- Specific Objectives:
1. Raise awareness among young people in the communes of Ibanda, Bagira, and Kadutu on human rights and justice.
2. Organize participatory debates to identify barriers to justice and propose local solutions.
3. Mobilize resources to expand the project’s impact in 2025.
3. Activities Conducted
3.1. Organization of Youth Meetings
- Target Audience:Youth from the three communes (Ibanda, Bagira, Kadutu)
- Number of Meetings:Three (one per commune)
- Meeting Theme: "Human Rights and Justice: Drivers of Social Development"
- Methodology:
- Participatory debates
- Question-and-answer sessions on local issues
- Alternative proposals for better social justice
3.2. Awareness Campaign on Human Rights and Justice
- Content of Awareness Sessions:
1. Definition of human rights
2. Importance of justice for development
3. Role of youth in promoting human rights

3.3. Financial Resource Mobilization
- Initial Budget:500 USD (from monthly member contributions of OGDH ASBL)
- Budget Allocation:
- Transportation to the communes
- Organization of meetings and production of awareness materials
- Future Actions: Launching a fundraising campaign on GlobalGiving to expand the project’s impact in 2025.
4. Results Achieved
1. Increased Youth Participation:
- Over 120 young people sensitized in the three communes.
- Active participation in debates and alternative proposals.
2. Strengthened knowledge of human rights and justice.
3. Creation of a community dynamic around social justice.
5. Challenges Encountered
- Insufficient financial resources to reach a larger number of young people.
- Need for enhanced logistical capacity (transport, materials).
6. Perspectives for 2025
- Expand the project to other communes and neighborhoods.
- Intensify awareness campaigns through partnerships with local and international organizations.
- Strengthen the fundraising campaign via GlobalGiving to finance new activities.
7. Conclusion and Acknowledgments
The year 2024 was marked by significant progress in raising awareness among youth in Bukavu on the themes of justice and human rights. OGDH ASBL thanks all members for their financial contributions and the young participants for their commitment. We also call for increased support to broaden the impact of this project.
