Stop Human Trafficking

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Donor,

Stop Human Trafficking

#StrongHer

To our loyal sponsors!

We extend our deepest gratitude to all...

Our mission is to bring healing and restoration to broken women of our society, caught in the traps of prostitution, drug addiction, human trafficking and domestic violence. El Shaddai is in community service for the past 25 years. Help us to serve our community in the spirit of excellence.

Our teams are on the field and committedly to giving their best to reach out to women and girls in the red-light areas of Turbhe Bhandup and Ghatkopar. Our team has come across 30 women during their outreach program.  Awareness was held on following topics like personal hygiene, HIV awareness, children’s health and children’s schooling. Women also shared their stories of how they were trafficked and sold into prostitution. They also shared their concerns and the help they need from our program.

Our time with them builds our relationship with them. We are also having a tuition program for their children, and some of these children are also enrolled by us on nearby government schools. Through our tuition program, we are helping these children to cope with their curriculum. Children who are not attending schools are provided with basic learning, preparing them so we can enroll them too in formal schools. We also came across certain children who are attending formal schools and are coming to our tuition program, saying that they have nothing today in the house.

Also, it was found that most of their mothers don’t cook for being busy with customers and resting during the daytime, as they have to stay awake the whole night. It is difficult to see these children attending tuition without food. Our team make sure all the children who are attending our tuition classes are given food. We are also trying to educate these women through women's literacy program and providing vocational training skills like tailoring.

We have around 20 women who are consistently coming to our sewing program and currently they are learning to make bags. Every Saturday we have women's counselling sessions, where the women get an opportunity to release stress and be free. Women are also counselled to build strong relationships with their children and then to have a stable family life.

I would like to share the story of Neeta (name changed), 14-year-old, originally from Kolkata.  She lost her father and mother during the COVID. As her sister was already married she had no other siblings, she was now left alone to live. So she started living with her uncle and aunt but was never treated as their own. The uncle has two sons. The older son is already married and has a child. The younger son studies in a boarding school. Neeta (name changed) wasn’t allowed to study instead they made her do all the house chores. After a while, her uncle’s elder son took her to Mumbai and placed her to work as a housemaid with one of the family. She worked there for almost two weeks. After a few weeks, the family with whom she was working dropped her to their friend’s house and that’s how she was sold into prostitution. One fine day she left the place without telling anyone but she got lost. As she had no contact with her son’s uncle. As she was sitting on the road our outreach workers met her and inquired about it, she told them she forgot her way. The same thing was reported to a Police officer. Now Neeta (name changed) is placed in the children's homes where she is happy and is doing well.

Your support is enabling the support expense from prevention and rehabilitation. Now they are free from human right issue and sexual abuse. With your help, we are giving new hope to children and women in Mumbai. Help us today to continue bringing healing and restoration and support to the women we serve in our community as well as our society by donating to a good cause.
