Freedom from the bonds of slavery

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Patron,

We extend our deepest gratitude to you all for joining us in our mission to give freedom to the people caught in the evils of Prostitution and human trafficking.

We bring you our latest update on the happenings of events taking place at our “Rena Project” at Turbhe Navi Mumbai.

We have launched a new initiative in Mumbai called The Rena Project”, which is aimed at helping children and women in the red-light districts of Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, Badlapur and Bhandup districts.  At the Badlapur home, the staff are currently working on a group of children to accommodate them into our home as boarders to improve their quality of life.

Presently around twenty women and thirty children are coming for the Educational and vocational programmes. The children are enrolled on tuition classes where they are enjoying the learning experience of their first Alphabet.

The women on the other hand have joined literacy programmes and sewing programmes. They are learning to make beautiful and creative bags. There are also regular counselling sessions and health awareness camps, as it has been found that these women have been going through many health problems and mental traumas which keep haunting them every day of their life.

Here is the story of one woman called Mala (name changed) who hails from Bangladesh which is sadly one of the poorest nations of the world. She was illegally trafficked on the promise of a good job and being the oldest of 6 siblings and with a huge responsibility on her head agreed to the deal. She was brought to Mumbai and forced into prostitution. She knew that she had to be brave and strong for herself and for her family and escape from the daily mental and physical harassment.

Even though she was able to escape from the clutches of her trafficker, the experience of being a victim of human trafficking still haunted her every single day. We have counselling sessions for women like her and others and to let them know that we are there for them at every step of their lives. We believe that it is our duty and responsibility to protect survivors like her against human traffickers who wish to exploit their innocence for greed, control and money.

Your support is enabling the support expense from prevention and rehabilitation. Now they are free from human right issue and sexual abuse. With your help, we are giving new hope to children and women in Mumbai. Help us today to continue bringing healing and restoration and support to the women we serve in our community as well as our society by donating to a good cause.

Your’s sincerely

El Shaddai Family!
