Dear Patron,
We bring to you our latest report on “Protecting women from sex trafficking in Mumbai”.
It’s very alarming to hear that Maharashtra has found a top place in the national chart for the highest number of missing women and also the maximum number of trafficked women. The state is also an important source and destination point for trafficking.
Every country faces specific human rights issues, but human trafficking is a problem for every place on the planet. Wherever there’s poverty, conflict, a lack of education, or political instability, vulnerable people are at risk. Human trafficking is the world’s fastest-growing criminal industry.
We at El Shaddai strive to help such vulnerable people by providing them with a home, nutritious food, medical benefits, education for the women and their children and most importantly security and a place filled with warmth and care.
Under the Rena Project, we have opened a Home called "Rena Home” for children coming from the red light areas of Turbhe Bhandup red light area and Turbhe slum area. Women are given counselling and medical treatments, they are taught vocational training skills like sewing, tailoring, mehendi, and macramé. Presently, we have 20 women attending these programmes.
We have a story of a lady named Radha (name changed). This woman was lured to this red light area on the pretext of getting a role as an actress in a movie. She was just 15 years old when a neighbour suggested taking her to the city of dreams- “Mumbai”. Little did she know that this would be a city of nightmares for her. She was beaten and kept hungry every day till she agreed to their demands. But fate intervened and there was a police raid through which she was rescued and helped by our outreach worker through the Rena Project. It was a traumatic experience for her which haunts her till this day. But she is happy that now she is saved from the bondage of slavery.
Many such women go through these scary events each day. It is only with the help and support of generous people like you that we can help such women and protect them.
Your sponsorship not only provides us with the necessary financial means but also serves as a testament to your commitment to social responsibility and making a difference. We deeply appreciate your trust in our organization and the work we do and express our gratitude for your generous support and sponsorship.
Together, we can make a lasting impact and create a better world for all.
