STOP EXPLOITING : START EMPOWERING

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Donor,

Mumbai is one of the major hubs for sex trafficking in India, with a high prevalence of victims being lured into the trade. Many traffickers exploit the economic hardships faced by families, often promising jobs or better living conditions. Reports indicate that over half of the victims have been lured by traffickers under false pretences, highlighting the role of poverty in this crisis.

Victims of sex trafficking in Mumbai include women and girls from various backgrounds, with some as young as five year old being forced into the trade. El Shaddai offers vocational training programs that teach practical skills. This training will help them secure better-paying jobs in the future, breaking the cycle of poverty and enabling them to support their families. Every day, our outreach workers travel to various parts of Mumbai to help all such women and save them from their plight and misery. Through our Rena Project and Rena Home, we have been able to help women and children from red-light areas.

We have a story of a woman named “Seema (name changed) Her journey into the dark world of human trafficking began when she had just turned thirteen. Her neighbour lured her with false promises of a better life and job opportunities, she was ultimately pushed into the brutal realm of commercial sexual exploitation in the brothels of Mumbai. Her experience is a harrowing reminder of the vulnerabilities many young women face. She had no means of escape and accepted her fate. But fate had different plans for her. She met an outreach worker of our Rena Project who enrolled her in our empowerment project where she was welcomed with love, care, concern and counselling. Many women like her need our help and we can do so only with your help and support.

Her journey from victim to survivor underscores the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of community support in overcoming the trauma of trafficking. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing battle against human trafficking.

Your support is instrumental in helping us achieve our goals, and we express our gratitude for all you have done for us. Your continued generosity has made a profound difference in the lives of those we serve.

Thanking you

 Sincerely

El Shaddai Family!
