Dear Patron,
We bring to you our latest report on “Protect women from sex trafficking in Mumbai"..
Women and children of low socioeconomic status are most vulnerable to becoming victims. After being involved in sex work in a society that stigmatizes women and prostitution, their status falls even further. People usually treat them with shame, and often, their families do not accept them back into the community either. On top of that, they usually lack money, working skills, and education to enter into a different type of job.
To save such women and girls from Exploitation, El Shaddai runs the Rena Project in Mumbai where there is a women’s shelter for the rescued women of the red light areas. We have our outreach team who each day meet women from these red light areas to provide support and help them transform their lives.
We have a story of a lady named Sarika (name changed). Although She longed to continue her education, her family needed the extra income. With a heavy heart, she made the 2000 km journey from her village in rural West Bengal to work in Mumbai – known as the “City of Dreams”.
One day, on the assurance of finding a "good" opportunity, her brother-in-law handed her over to her future traffickers. Just like that, she was pushed into the world of commercial sexual exploitation in the brothels of Mumbai. But fate intervened and there was a police raid through, she saw this as her opportunity to escape and ran to police and asked for help. She was rescued and helped by our outreach worker through the Rena Project. From post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, panic disorder, to struggles with substance abuse, survivors of trafficking face an array of issues that need proper medical and psychological care. At Rena Home she is given proper medical care for mental and physiological recovery. She is happy that now she is saved from the bondage of slavery. By addressing the root causes and providing holistic support to survivors, India can make significant strides in combating this grave human rights violation.
We can save all such women only with the continuous support that you provide to our mission. We are forever grateful to you all for your love and support and we cannot thank you enough.
Mumbai, Break the Chains: End Trafficking, Restore Freedom.
With Gratitude
Thanking you
Sincerely
El Shaddai Family
