Dear Donor,
We bring to you our latest report on Protect women from sex trafficking in Mumbai.
Within the red-light area of Kamathipura in Mumbai, India, the majority of female sex workers arrive as victims of sex trafficking. Many of these women are mothers who must care for their children amongst multiple challenges including those associated with sex work and their traumas from the past. The interaction of poverty and gender-based mistreatment of women and girls in families heightens the risk of sex trafficking.
Seeing the sad plight of the sufferings of these trafficked women, El Shaddai came up with the mission of saving, healing and restoring these trafficked women who are caught in this traumatic and miserable situations.
Our outreach workers go to various red light areas and spread awareness of the work we do. every day they meet 20 to 30 women who are caught in this bondage of slavery. The Rena Project helps women in education, empowering and learning life skills. This programme also offers counselling to these trafficked women and organizes health camps and other awareness programs.
We have a story of a woman named Rabiya (named changed). She was found sleeping on the streets of Mumbai. She has turned into an alcoholic and a beggar. When our outreach workers reached out to her she broke down and told us that she came from another state on the promise of a job but she was instead taken to a brothel. She somehow managed to escape. The outreach workers enrolled her in our Rena Project programme and through multiple counselling helped her to stand on her feet once again.
We are humbled by your generosity and thankful for your commitment to our cause. Your support makes a huge impact.
With Gratitude
El Shaddai family
