Join the fight, end Sex Trafficking!

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Patron,

Human trafficking is a serious crime that involves forcing people into difficult situations against their will. It is often described as a modern form of slavery. Victims of human trafficking can experience terrible treatment, such as being drugged, locked in a small space, beaten, or starved. They may be forced to work long hours without pay. Among the many victims, girls and women are particularly vulnerable to sex trafficking, which is a specific type of human trafficking where individuals are made to engage in sexual acts for money. This issue affects many lives and is a problem that society must work together to solve.

El Shaddai provides comprehensive support services for the women of the red light areas including Education, counselling, medical help, legal assistance, and job training, as it is vital for their recovery and reintegration into society.

El Shaddai focuses on helping women gain vocational skills. We assist women in enrolling in tailoring and other courses, aiming to make them self-sustainable within a year. This approach not only provides women with skills but also helps them reintegrate into society by offering alternative livelihoods.

Mamata (name changed), led an ordinary life with her husband and two children in Kolkata. Things took a drastic turn for the worse with the death of her husband. To cope with this blow, she remarried; her new husband was her friend’s brother and she hoped he would help her raise her daughters. She and her family then moved to Mumbai, where she was duped and trafficked into prostitution. She lived everyday Fearing her daughters would be dragged into this profession. There was a raid at the brothel one day and she was taken by the police, where she told her story, Lucky her the police rescued her and the with help of our Outreach worker admitted her and her two daughters in Rena Home. Today, she sees hope at the end of the tunnel; of educating her children and giving them a good start in life and also triumphing over her past.

We are grateful for your kind support which plays a vital role in our mission to empower women from red light areas and help them reclaim their lives from the challenges they face.

Women everywhere get a chance to live the way they were meant to – in dignity and freedom

With Gratitude

Sincerely

El Shaddai Charitable Trust
