Report on the Protection of Children in Yemen from Forms of Violence in Conflict and Crisis.

Introduction:
Protecting children in Yemen from forms of violence in conflict and crisis is a huge and complex challenge. Children are the most vulnerable and affected by the effects of conflict, exposed to grave violations including recruitment, killing and maiming, and sexual violence, as well as being deprived of their most basic rights to education, health, and safety.
Current Situation and Challenges:
• Recruitment and Use in Armed Conflict: The recruitment and use of children in combat is among the most prominent grave violations they face in Yemen. Various reports demonstrate the involvement of warring parties in this act, endangering the lives of these children and depriving them of their childhood.
• Killing and Maiming: Due to the use of explosive weapons, mines, and remnants of war, children are killed and maimed. Attacks on schools and health facilities further increase the risks to their lives.
• Other Violations: Other violations against children in Yemen include sexual violence, abduction, early marriage of girls, and child labor exploitation, which exacerbate their suffering and impact their physical and psychological health.
• Institutional Collapse: Yemeni state institutions responsible for protecting children are facing a complete collapse, hindering their ability to provide basic protection and care.
• Deteriorating Socio-Economic Conditions: Extreme poverty, unemployment, and migration exacerbate the situation, forcing families to engage their children in hazardous work or marry girls off at an early age.
• Legislative Deficiencies: Although Yemen has a child protection law, legislative challenges hinder its effective implementation, allowing harmful practices such as child marriage.
Protection Efforts and Response:
Despite the enormous challenges, many international and local organizations are making significant efforts to protect children in Yemen. Prominent among these efforts are:
• UNICEF Programs: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) works to support vulnerable children, provide assistance to mine survivors, and raise awareness of the dangers of remnants of war. The organization also supports case management programs to refer the most vulnerable children to vital services and provide them with psychosocial support.
• Civil society organizations' efforts: Local organizations play a vital role in providing support and care for affected children. Their programs include:
o Establishing child-friendly spaces to provide a safe environment for them.
o Providing psychosocial support.
o Implementing awareness campaigns to reduce violence against children.
o Working to integrate children released from armed conflict into their communities.
• International partnerships: International organizations, in cooperation with the United Nations, seek to engage parties to the conflict in action plans aimed at ending grave violations against children and releasing all children from their ranks.

An overview of the tragic situation of childhood in Yemen
The Yemen Child Protection Project from Violence in Conflict and Crisis is an initiative aimed at providing protection and safety to Yemeni children at risk of violence and exploitation as a result of the country's ongoing armed conflicts and humanitarian crises. The project includes several activities and initiatives aimed at promoting the rights and social and psychological well-being of children, including:
Providing basic protection: This aspect of the project includes establishing safe centers for children affected by conflict, providing them with care and psychological support, and creating a safe living environment.
Promoting awareness and education: The project includes implementing awareness and education campaigns for children, parents, and the local community about forms of violence and exploitation and their harmful effects on children, in addition to promoting awareness of children's rights.
Training personnel: The project includes training child protection workers and volunteers involved in providing support and care to affected children, with the aim of enhancing their skills and capacity to provide the necessary support.
Establishing protection networks: The project also aims to establish and strengthen local and national protection networks and collaborate with relevant local and international institutions to ensure coordinated efforts and promote comprehensive protection for children.
This initiative aims to mitigate the negative impacts of conflict and crises on children in Yemen and provide a safe and sustainable environment for their growth and development. Children in Yemen are suffering from difficult conditions and harsh circumstances as a result of the ongoing conflict in the country since 2015. According to reports from international and humanitarian organizations, children in Yemen face numerous challenges and urgent needs, which have been highlighted, including:
• Protection: Children in Yemen are exposed to violence, exploitation, child soldiering, and forced recruitment.
• Healthcare: Disease outbreaks have a significant and direct impact on the health of children in Yemen.
• Education: The education system in Yemen has been severely damaged by the conflict, affecting children's right to education.
• Nutrition: Many children in Yemen suffer from acute and chronic malnutrition.
• Psychosocial needs: Children in Yemen suffer from psychological trauma due to the ongoing conflict and violence.
• Displacement: Many children in Yemen face ongoing forced displacement and live in displacement camps or in inadequate hosting conditions. They suffer from deprivation in housing, healthcare, and education, and are exposed to various forms of violence. Children in Yemen are also at risk of forced migration and human trafficking. Activities carried out during the reporting period
Since the beginning of 2025, Sanad has focused on protection, awareness-raising, and psychological support for children in Yemen, with few measures taken to provide humanitarian aid due to limited resources and the limited donations and funds needed by this segment of society.
Due to the scarcity of financial resources and donations, Sanad has developed an alternative plan to address emergencies and the lack of support. This plan involves communicating, communicating, and coordinating with relevant authorities within Yemen to conclude agreements and facilitate the admission of targeted children to schools, exempt them from tuition fees, and provide them with some services. The same plan also applies to health care facilities, including health centers, hospitals, and malnutrition programs, to receive a number of beneficiaries, including children and women. These measures were as follows:
Field Survey Procedures:
• Conducting a field survey of samples of children in displacement areas to select those targeted for the protection program during 2025.
• Implementing four community awareness sessions to strengthen efforts to eliminate the phenomenon of forced recruitment of children and to work on the rehabilitation of child soldiers.
• Providing basic healthcare for children, facilitating access to health services and vaccinations, and providing them with emergency and secondary health services.
• Raising awareness about healthy and nutritious food for children and strengthening targeted nutritional programs through the Child Malnutrition Treatment Program.
• Conducting discussions with school administrations and education departments to facilitate the admission of children at risk of dropping out of school and exposed to violations and violence due to their inability to continue their education due to their living conditions. Arrangements are being made for their enrollment in schools after exempting them from tuition fees and providing them with school bags and supplies by 2025.
• Enrolling 320 children who have experienced some form of violence in psychosocial support sessions, provided by psychologists and social workers. Counseling and psychological support are also provided in displacement camps to help children cope with the effects of conflict and violence.
• Implementing 23 group awareness sessions and 29 individual awareness sessions on promoting children's rights in Yemen.
• Developing a plan and study to provide humanitarian and development assistance to support children and develop their talents and skills, including food assistance. For their families.
