Protecting Children in Yemen from Forms of Violence during Conflicts and Crises

Project Description
The project aims to safeguard Yemeni children from violence, exploitation, and abuse resulting from ongoing armed conflict and humanitarian crises. During this reporting quarter, SORD focused on:
Establishing safe spaces
Delivering psychosocial support
Raising awareness on child protection
Providing basic health and nutrition services
Despite limited resources, the project reached hundreds of children through direct interventions and community-based activities.
Progress Overview
Project Objectives
Provide safe and protective environments for children affected by conflict and displacement.
Deliver psychosocial support and recreational activities to enhance wellbeing.
Raise awareness among children, parents, and communities about child rights and protection.
Strengthen the capacity of child protection staff and volunteers.
Establish and reinforce local protection networks with national and international stakeholders.
Context and Challenges
Children in Yemen continue to face severe risks due to the protracted conflict since 2015:
Exposure to violence, exploitation, and forced recruitment
Limited access to healthcare and immunization services
Disruption of education systems
Widespread malnutrition and food insecurity
Psychological trauma and social distress
Inadequate access to clean water, sanitation, and shelter
Key Activities Implemented (Sept–Dec 2025)
Health Services: Access to basic healthcare, vaccinations, and emergency medical services
Safe Space Establishment: Child-friendly safe space created for boys and girls
Psychosocial Support:
30 awareness sessions conducted
50 children received structured psychological support
320 children outside safe spaces received follow-up support
Recreational & Educational Activities:
80+ children engaged in reading, writing, and drawing
Recreational games provided for physical and cognitive development
Material Support:
50 children received winter clothing
30 children received additional clothing support
80 children received light meals during activities
Nutrition Awareness: Sessions on healthy diets and malnutrition prevention
Achievements
1 operational safe space established
370+ children received psychosocial support
160 children received clothing and food support
30 awareness sessions conducted
Strengthened collaboration with local communities and specialists
Challenges
Limited funding and donations restricted scale of assistance
High demand for services exceeded available resources
Ongoing conflict and displacement created unstable conditions
Recommendations & Next Steps
Expand safe spaces to additional districts with donor support
Increase funding for psychosocial and nutrition programs
Strengthen partnerships with local and international organizations
Continue awareness campaigns targeting parents, teachers, and community leaders
