Wrapping Up Chimfunshi Fundraiser

By Morgan Domijan | Fundraising Manager

In Chimunshi, our volunteers and staff have been hard at work keeping the Escape Artists happy and healthy. Recently, one of our goals for behavior enrichment is to encourage tool use. Did you know that evidence of chimps using tools dates back to over 4000 years ago? For our escape artists, we encourage them to explore these natural behaviors through enrichment puzzles. In the picture you will notice a volunteer attaching a raising board to the enclosure. Chimps are given thin skewer sticks to push raisins or peanut butter through the holes and onto the other side. Currently, Milla and Cleo can push the raisins through using sticks but haven't quite gotten the idea of catching them on the other side!

Over the past year, we have been able to raise over $2,000 to expand part of the enclosure for the Escape Artists and we cannot be more thankful for all the generous donors who have helped us fundraise this much so far! We are even more excited that Chimfunshi has some great plans for this new enclosure which will extend the impact past just the Escape Artists. Be on the look out soon for an update on extended plans for the enclosure!

As we wrap up this fundraiser, we are again so grateful for every single donor's support. We would also like to really thank our volunteers, staff and Chimfunshi staff and chimp keepers who look after our Escape Artists daily.
