Dear Supporters,
This quarter the wet season has continued. This year we have had very little rain demonstrating the need for our conservation efforts. Rain or sunshine our passion and commitment works towards obtaining our objectives, with the help of the equipment and funds raised by our very kind donors.
Our partnership with The Royal Thai Navy is still going strong, we are receiving high numbers of hatchlings, which is great news for the endangered Green Turtle. Your donations have helped us create new enrichment devices for the tanks. Research has shown that the addition of enrichment into a tank reduces the turtles stress and helps it learn how to behave once released. We have created many new bottom feeders this quarter, this specifically helps the turtles go to the bottom for food, he also helps with learning to hide. As well as a head start program the centre takes in injured turtles that have been found on the Andaman coast. This quarter we have seen an increase in the number of turtles that brought to the centre. Some have been re-released, some are still at the centre and some have been taken to Phuket Marine Biological Centre (PMBC) for expert veterinary care. Unfortunately, not all turtles survived. We have fundraisers organised so we have help the Navy buy additional tanks for the additional turtles.
Pangolins have also enjoyed wet season, we have captured them for 6 months consecutive, we are eagerly awaiting news of our research licence. Your funds have helped us buy new cameras, placed in new locations we are excited to see the results. Its not all about Pangolins, we have captured many different species including, deer, wild pig, many rats
One of the frustrations from the community of Koh Phra Thong is that there is no rubbish collection from the island to the mainland. Last month we held a fundraiser beach clean, the funds were used to move all of the rubbish from the beach and the majority of the village rubbish. Tractors, boats and taxis were hired to remove record amounts of rubbish. It was sorted and the recyclable products were sent for recycling. The community and rangers thanked us and donors for their hard work and help. The village looks great without bags of rubbish everywhere.
We would like to thank you for for your continueous support and for making a difference to all life.
With Gratitude,
Phang Nha Conservation
