Urgent need to purchase CerroTortuga, a sacred site that takes spiritually care of water. We'll save from imminent deforestation 8ha of the Jaguar Corridor, place of radical importance for the conservation of this feline. The owner agrees on selling it to our Foundation before selling it to unsustainable projects. We will integrate it in our Reserve to protect & reforest it . Losing this place will represent a significant setback for our years of efforts to restore the Jaguar del Carrizal basin
Cerro Tortuga is under severe threat of being fragmented and sold to unsustainable interests. This is a sacred site considered the source of the four waters, is part of the jaguar corridor and the Tropical Dry Forest ecosystem of which in Colombia only 8% of the original area remains. This area is crucial for biological connectivity and the preservation of water sources, of which only 5 out of 40 are still active in the region. Several endangered species (flora and fauna) depend on its existance
We will purchase the land before it is fragmented and sold for unsustainable uses. We will incorporate this area into our existing Jaguar del Carrizal Reserve and Biological Station, which is part of Colombia's protected areas system. While we guarantee its protection, our ecological restoration program will reforest it with threatened tree species and accompanying species that are associated with native fauna that is being lost. Reforestation will guarantee the continuity of water production
The project will secure and restore 8 ha of Colombia's Tropical Dry Forest, ensuring the reproduction of 7 endangered tree species, maintaining the jaguar corridor, and safeguarding one of the few remaining active water sources. By expanding the Jaguar del Carrizal Reserve and restoring native vegetation, it will enhance ecological connectivity, strengthen climate resilience, and ensure sustainable water production for future generations.
