At the end of October 2025, Hurricane Melissa struck our country, causing significant material damage and severely impacting thousands of families. Faced with this natural disaster, CHSAN mobilized quickly to provide emergency assistance to those affected.
Emergency intervention
Thanks to the generous grants from GlobalGiving, CHSAN was able to deploy effective emergency actions to best support the affected communities. Our teams on the ground worked tirelessly to ensure that assistance reached those who needed it most.
1. Distribution of Food Kits:
More than 200 households received food kits containing essential items such as rice, oil, black beans, and other nutritious products. This aid provided immediate relief to families who had lost their food resources as a result of the storm.
2. Access to Drinking Water:
We also ensured access to drinking water through several kiosks set up in the affected areas. Since water quality is crucial for public health, this initiative helped reduce the risks of waterborne diseases during this critical period.
3. Support for Farmers:
In addition to food assistance, CHSAN has taken steps to help farmers whose gardens were devastated by the hurricane. We began distributing suitable seeds, enabling farmers to restart their agricultural activities. This assistance is ongoing, with regular monitoring of crop development.
Status of Activities
Field activities are progressing satisfactorily. Our teams continue to work closely with beneficiaries to assess their needs and adjust our assistance as the situation evolves. The feedback we are receiving from the communities is encouraging and demonstrates the resilience of the residents in the face of adversity.
Conclusion
CHSAN's emergency response, made possible with the support of GlobalGiving, had a significant impact on the lives of many families after Hurricane Melissa. We remain committed to supporting these communities in their reconstruction process and ensuring their long-term food security.
We thank our unwavering partner (GlobalGiving) for their invaluable support, without which these actions would not have been possible. Together, we can build a better future for all.
