In southern Rajasthan, many tribal and rural women face discrimination, violence, and social exclusion, often with no one to turn to for support. Since 2006, Seva Mandir has been addressing this through 10 active Women Resource Centres (WRCs), supported more than 2,500 women in distress. Led by trained local women, these Centres provide counselling, connect women to legal and medical support, help access government schemes, and empower them to lead safer, stronger, more confident lives.
Tribal and rural women in south Rajasthan often face domestic violence, social pressure, and very few opportunities. Most don't know where to seek help or how to deal with legal processes. Police stations and male-led caste councils are far away, intimidating, and sometimes require money they can't afford. With no safe or trusted spaces, many women stay silent, putting their safety and future at risk.
Women Resource Centres provide a trusted space for women to share problems and find fair solutions. Each Centre is run by trained women leaders skilled in counselling, legal rights, and government schemes. Open twice a week, they address issues like domestic violence, abuse, and access to services. Leaders mediate with families and councils, involve police when needed, help women get legal and medical aid, and make regular home visits to ensure safety and well-being.
In the long run, WRCs will become safe, trusted spaces for women with no other support. They will help women facing violence receive guidance and fair resolutions and motivate fellow women to stand against injustice. Over time, women will learn about legal rights, government schemes, and available support. With counselling and confidence-building, women will make better decisions and create safer, more stable lives for themselves and their families.
