Holistic Support for Children Living on the Street

By Hazel Briones | Digital Engagement and Fundraising Associate

Kalyenderia supports and feeds children in street situations through a structured, child-centered approach that prioritizes dignity, safety, and consistency. The organization provides regular, nutritious meals through community kitchens and mobile feeding programs, ensuring children have reliable access to food regardless of their location. These meals are designed to meet basic nutritional needs and are delivered in safe, supervised environments that encourage trust and routine.

Beyond food provision, Kalyenderia offers holistic support aimed at stabilizing children’s daily lives. This includes access to clean water, hygiene supplies, and safe spaces where children can rest, learn, and interact positively with peers and caregivers. Trained staff and volunteers engage children respectfully, assess their immediate needs, and connect them to appropriate services, reducing exposure to harm and exploitation.

Kalyenderia also supports education and psychosocial well-being as critical pathways out of street life. The organization facilitates informal learning, school reintegration, and life-skills training, while providing counseling and emotional support to address trauma and stress. By working closely with families, schools, and community partners, Kalyenderia helps create stable environments that promote long-term development.

Importantly, Kalyenderia advocates for the rights and protection of every child in street situations. Through outreach, case management, and collaboration with local authorities and social services, the organization works to ensure children receive legal protection, healthcare, and pathways to reintegration. This comprehensive model ensures that support is inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to the diverse needs of all children served.
