Women facing breast cancer need more than medical treatment-they need professional psychological and emotional support. At One in 8, we provide free individual counseling for patients and relatives, moderated support groups for patients and caregivers, and therapeutic workshops (art, film, laughter, monthly emotion sessions), with remote access outside the city. Your donation helps women and loved ones cope, feel less alone, and regain control during and after treatment.
A breast cancer diagnosis can be one of the hardest moments in a woman's life. Many women and families lack a safe space to talk openly about fear, anxiety, anger, sadness, guilt, and uncertainty-and be met without judgment. Cancer affects the whole household, especially mothers with young children. Outside Sofia, access to mental health support is limited and travel is hard, so distress and isolation can grow when support is most needed.
We address this need by giving women with breast cancer and their families a safe, confidential place to be heard and supported-so fear and isolation don't take over. Through professional counseling and guided group work, participants learn practical coping tools, strengthen communication at home, and regain a sense of control during treatment and recovery. Remote support ensures timely help for people outside Sofia, even when this kind of service isn't accessible locally.
By making free psychological support consistently available, this project helps women with breast cancer and their loved ones build lasting coping and communication skills they can use during treatment and survivorship. Sustained group support also grows a peer community where women continue to support each other beyond the program, creating a stronger, more informed network of breast cancer survivors and families across Bulgaria.
