Since 2012, Peace Winds has been continuously taking in dogs in order to stop the use of euthanasia “Dream Boxes” in Hiroshima Prefecture. The dogs that we take in for protection are usually wild, however, we also bring in dogs who , due to various circumstances, have been abandoned by their owners. Whether due to illness, old age, bad temperament and the like, our dogs who require special care live together in the “Orange Kennel” shelter.
Amaguri (Chestnut) began living in Orange Kennel on October 102023. He is a Shibu-Inu like uncle dog, and is estimated to be approximately 11 years old. He is good friends with the other dogs he shares room with, and they like to sleep together. He has a wonderful personality, however, since he has come into care, he has been sick with heart disease l worms, which requires daily medicine.
To help Amaguri - who’s appetite has declined - eat even one more bite, we’ve begun giving him kidney support supplements that are low in sodium and phosphorus, among other efforts. Furthermore, in order to reduce the burden on his heart and kidneys, we soak his food, and mix in supplements that support kidney health. We then form the mixture into small balls so he can eat one bite at a time.
"Amaguri" loves going for walks, but for a dog with heart disease, walks can sometimes be a strain on the body. The staff use a support harness and keep the walks shorter, carefully making adjustments to avoid putting too much stress on Amaguri’s body while still letting him enjoy his favorite activity.
“Amaguri” is living his best life while combating illness.. When his condition is good, he enjoys going for walks. So Amaguri can continue enjoying his walks, and someday walk on his own again, we will continue to care for him with sincere care and love.
