Promoting heirloom varieties
Dear Friend,
Thank you very much for your generous support to our project improving the biodiversity of our rainforest. This reporting period we continue to promote the growing and culture of heirloom crops comprising vegetables, root crops and fruit and timber trees. These crops have tremendous value in terms of increasing biodiversity but they are slowly lost and taken for granted as they are replaced by hybrid varieties. There is a need to continually promote them. In our experience we found out that they resist insect and pest infestation and they are climate-resilient. They taste a lot better too in the case of vegetables. We plan to produce seedlings and seeds in large quantities and provide them to farmers. Hoping for your continuing support to this initiative. Thank you very much.
Very sincerely yours,
Jed Christian Sayre

Growing high-valued trees

Growing food trees
Dear Friend,
Thank you very much for your continuing support to our initiative improving the biodiversity of our rainforest. In our interaction with farmers during field visits and in providing technical assistance to them, we found out that there is a hesitancy to plant and grow trees because they need to get income in the short term. We try solving this situation by advocating the growing of vegetables together with the planting and care of trees because they can derive immediate income from the vegetable harvest. With the tree growing we focus our effort to let farmers grow trees that give fruit and provide them with immediate income. So in this case we promote the growing of mulberry for example because it grows well in the area and in 6 months farmers can already harvest fruits and make this into jam, wine and sell as fresh fruits. We convinced 12 farmers to do this system and hoping we will be able to gain more adopters. Thank you very much.
Very sincerely yours,
Jed Christian Sayre

Dear Friend,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your continuing support to our initiative in improving the biodiversity of our rainforest. This effort is huge and we are enjoining others to help us. We are also keen in engaging those who are working on carbon offset to help us with establishing seedling nursery and distributing the seedlings to our farmers so they can grow in their farms. We are very keen to engage the youth in this effort since most of them do not like farming anymore with the idea that farming is a lowly enterprise. This reporting period we are promoting the integration of food crops like vegetables in the biodiversity improvement mix because we found out that there is very little attention by farmers especially the youth in growing trees alone. Food is foremost in their minds. We were able to provide vegetable seeds and organic fertilizer to 75 farmers during this period and we will provide technical support to them as they grow their food. Again thank you very much.
Very sincerely yours,
Jed Christian Sayre
