Rainforest Protectors Trust is continuing its mission to safeguard Sri Lanka’s vital rainforest ecosystems through direct land conservation, community engagement, and environmental education. We are currently in negotiations to acquire a strategically located tract of land adjoining a river that once flowed through the Sinharaja Rainforest—now ecologically separated due to fragmentation and reduced flow due to mini-hydro projects upstream. This land holds immense potential not only for biodiversity restoration but also as the future site of the Rainforest Conservation and Education Center.
By protecting river-adjacent parcels near Sinharaja rainforest, we aim to:
Our broader goal is reconnecting over 2,000 acres of fragmented rainforest north of Sinharaja. By securing key parcels and establishing ecological continuity, we aim to strengthen the case for government recognition of a larger protected area—ensuring permanent protection for future generations.
The rainforest is more than trees—it's a living system that sustains biodiversity, regulates climate, and nurtures communities. By supporting the Rainforest Protectors Trust, you're not just preserving land; you're investing in clean air, fresh water, and a future where ecosystems thrive. Every donation helps us secure vulnerable habitats, engage local stewards, and restore balance to areas under threat. The urgency is real, but so is the impact we can make—together. Let’s protect what cannot be replaced.
