Saving the Living Waters of Sinharaja Rainforest

By Sriyantha Perera | Settlor, Rainforest Protectors Trust

The "Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest" depends on a fragile network of springs and streams that sustain its remarkable biodiversity. These “living waters” are increasingly threatened by deforestation in buffer zones, soil erosion, and climate change, placing both the rainforest and surrounding communities at risk. Protecting the watershed is essential to preserving the ecological balance of Sri Lanka’s last remaining primary rainforest.

Rainforest Protectors Trust is working to secure vulnerable watershed lands and restore degraded stream banks. This includes protecting highrisk lands through conservation purchases, planting native trees along streams, and involving local communities in sustainable land use. Please watch the documentary video, Saving the Living Waters of Sinharaja Rainforest (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkVIjLNgeg4), which vividly shows the beauty of these freshwater ecosystems and the urgent need to protect them.

The future of Sinharaja’s waters depends on immediate, collective action. Every donation directly protects threatened rainforest lands, restores damaged waterways, and strengthens community stewardship. Your contribution today is a powerful step toward ensuring that the living waters of Sinharaja continue to flow—clean, vibrant, and lifegiving—for generations to come.
