The Happy Africa Foundation Kuyasa Preschool Roof Rebuild fundraiser raised $918 online with sixteen donations. Along with money fundraised on the ground, we were able to purchase the materials needed for the roof repairs and painting.
The funds enabled the school to hire workers to rebuild the roof and supply the necessary resources including nails, timber slabs for the roof, paint, roof sheets, and ceiling boards. On Mandela Day armed with tools and many willing volunteers, the roof was rebuilt and the ceiling was painted. The inside was also cleaned and classroom resources were added to the walls. Electricity was installed to enable lighting in the building which makes it easier for the students to learn.
Completing the roof rebuild brings Kuyasa one step closer in gaining government registration and then government funding. By rebuilding the structure, the school has more room for the different grades. Before, the different grade levels were stuck in limited class space making it difficult for the teachers and volunteers to fulfill their specific lesson plans. Now with the additional structure, the teachers are able to spread out the different grade levels enabling them to properly teach each grade. The better the preschool, the more likely the student will be able to go to a good primary school and receive an exemplary education. Education being a key necessity in escaping poverty and uplifting the community.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible!
