In November 2025, severe floods carrying mud and large logs swept through parts of Sumatra, damaging thousands of schools and disrupting education for more than 657,000 children. North Sumatra is among the hardest-hit areas, with over 450 schools affected and 180,000 students impacted. Your donation will help rebuild schools, provide temporary learning spaces that can later be upgraded into permanent classrooms, and supply essential learning equipment.
Floodwaters carrying mud and large logs damaged classrooms, destroyed furniture, and washed away learning materials. Many schools remain unsafe or unusable. In some communities, children now study in temporary tents and must take turns sharing limited space with students from other schools. These conditions make it difficult to focus and continue lessons, putting children at risk of prolonged learning disruption.
Your donation will help rebuild permanent schools in locations approved by the government as safe for construction. In communities where school sites are still under review, temporary learning spaces will allow children to continue studying and regain a sense of normalcy. Your support will also help equip classrooms with desks, chairs, laptops, cabinets, bookshelves, printers, and projectors so teachers and students can learn effectively again.
With proper facilities and learning tools, children in North Sumatra can continue their education and build stronger opportunities for the future. One child shared a simple wish: to return to school like before, without feeling afraid when the rain begins to fall.
