Standing with the Rangers on World Ranger Day

Hello Friends,

Today is World Ranger Day, a moment to celebrate the men and women who work to protect wildlife and nature. It is also an opportunity for us to express our appreciation for you! Thank you for helping to sustain the work of Paso Pacifico's community rangers.

Here are just a few of their accomplishments from the past few months:

  • Carried out 368 hours patrolling the forest to protect endangered Central American spider monkeys on private lands. This includes efforts in El Salvador, where the critically endangered subspecies of spider monkey survives on unprotected lands adjacent to the Olomega Lagoon.

  • Your support helped our sea turtle rangers provide a training workshop to fifteen guards at Rancho Santana to better patrol sea turtle nesting beaches in Tola, Nicaragua, and to expertly manage a sea turtle hatchery where critically endangered hawksbill sea turtle nests are placed every summer.

  • By sustaining our community rangers, you helped us ensure the safety of 31 critically endangered yellow-naped Amazon parrots, leading them to fledge their nests and fly free in the dry tropical forests of El Salvador and Nicaragua.

  • You helped our female rangers in Nicaragua and El Salvador build leadership in their communities. In El Salvador, women led cleanups along waterways, and in Nicaragua, our women rangers helped organize groups of students participating in May's Global Big Day citizen science birding event.

Thank you for honoring the rangers who act as the "thin green line" protecting nature. And thank you for helping Paso Pacifico further its mission.

With deep gratitude,

Sarah Otterstrom
