We are setting up an awesome Regenerative Farm at African Angels School. An integrated, hands-on model of sustainability food production. Providing: - Fresh, organic, nutritious food for the school kitchen - An opportunity for students to get their hands dirty learning how to grow their own food in a sustainable, environmentally conscious way. Working with nature instead of against it. - The connection between the theory of books and the reality of a living classroom
The reality is that our food systems are broken, the environment is damaged and education is failing our children. Rural children grow up surrounded by nature, yet disconnected from practical food systems. Climate variability, food insecurity, and environmental degradation are daily realities. They experience food as something that arrives in packets, not something they co-create with soil, water, sun and hard work. Change takes time, effort and resources.
On the backbone of a professionally run school by teachers who really care, African Angels Trust has designed and is ready to implement; an integrated regenerative farming system within the school grounds. Primary school students will get hands-on experience in a living classroom that holistically links food production, water, waste, soil, animals and human wellbeing. Learning about sustainability, systems and resilience.
- Measurable improvement in learner understanding of food systems and interdependence - Practical skills in regenerative agriculture, waste cycling and water management - Teacher confidence and curriculum integration - Reduction in school food procurement costs - Increased nutrition of school meals - Youth (past students) trained and equipped to assist in the running of the farm and the facilitation of learners
