The watershed harbors 40 fishing and farming communities representing 30000 inhabitants, including chatino original peoples. This means harmonizing the social relationship with water and nature, while improving the local living conditions.

Also: Operate a Committee of Representatives for the Basin to develop a shared vision, agreements for land-use planning, and the proper governance of its resources, Develop an intensive environmental education campaign at all levels,integrating community monitoring and citizen science

Long-Term Impact

Our Vision: Ecological & water footprints in basin have been reduced, and consequently the following have decreased: deforestation, erosion, extraction of wild plants & animals, and waste production. Pollution of surface water bodies, groundwater, and the wetland system is prevented and controlled. The amount of wastewater is reduced, and black and greywater are treated in sustainable and cost-effective ways. Strong community participation and institutional coordination
