During the war in Ukraine, many children using cochlear implants and hearing aids do not have the opportunity to continue rehabilitation in their cities and villages. Therefore, we help such children to receive individual online classes on auditory and speech development with the help of specialists.
Maksym was born in Ukraine, in the city of Lubny. When he was very little, he lost his mother to a serious illness. The boy is being raised by his grandmother, who has become his support, his mainstay, and his family. Since early childhood, Maksym suffered from severe hearing loss. He underwent cochlear implant surgery, which was followed by a long and difficult rehabilitation.
His path was especially difficult. During the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Maksym and his grandmother were forced to leave their home. It was a period of anxiety, loss and horror. In these difficult circumstances, he needed urgent rehabilitation after the surgery to learn to hear and speak.
Our last online project, conducted in March-April 2025, helped Maksym and 20 other children receive timely rehabilitation. Our online session coincided with Easter and our children were happy to support the Ukrainian tradition of painting Easter eggs, which brought them a lot of joy and contributed to the development of fine motor skills.
Despite all the difficulties, Maksym is now studying in school with other children. This boy, like other Ukrainian children of war, has experienced more than many adults manage to do in a lifetime. Despite numerous challenges and hardships, Maksym remains kind, open and has a strong heart.
We express our gratitude to our benefactors who support our Ukrainian children in difficult times for Ukraine.
The boy's name has been changed.
