IsraAID has been supporting the mental health and psychosocial support needs of refugees living in shelters in Germany since 2016. By the end of 2016, there were 1.6 million people seeking protection, including asylum seekers and refugees, registered in Germany.
KOMPASS
IsraAID’s new Refugee Leadership Program, KOMPASS, is having a direct impact on the lives of young refugees in Germany and their communities. Launched at the beginning of the year, KOMPASS brings together a group of motivated refugees from a wide variety of nationalities and religions and empowers them to lead social and community-building activities in their communities, and to encourage thousands of refugees from their communities to connect with the wider German population. The initial group includes 18 male and female refugees, aged 14 to 45 years old, from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Eritrea and Somalia.
Over Easter, the KOMPASS group carried out aid activities for homeless people in Berlin.
Integration
IsraAID Germany was chosen to be one of 33 applicants for the Chancellor’s National Prize for Integration, the country's most prestigious honor for integration work. Our fantastic team of specialists provide vital support to refugees living in shelters.
Germany’s Integration Ministry featured an article about our psychosocial support work with refugee women on their website.
Quote from our team
Nehama, an art-therapist helping to transform the wellbeing of women and children living in refugee shelters in Germany, said:
“As part of IsraAID’s mosaic team of Arabic, English and German-speaking specialists, I’m helping to make sure that Gender-Based Violence is being reduced, child-protection standards are being improved and vital psychological first aid is being provided.”
