It's been 5 months since we released Cuyén, Eclipse, Bagual, and Chicoco in Patagonia National Park. We have been monitoring them through the satellite transmitters on their wings and through field patrols, assessing the condition of each one.
After their release on February 12th, Chicoco and Bagual took flight, positioning themselves on the Argentine side, and their movements indicate that they are doing well. As for Cuyén and Eclipse, both born in captivity at the Chilean Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Center (CRAR), our team had to recapture them because their movements and field observations suggested they might not be eating enough. They spent 40 days in the pre-release enclosure, regaining weight and strength before being released again.
Today we are happy to share these images from trail cameras in Patagonia National Park, showing Cuyén feeding on a carcass alongside condors, vultures, and caracaras, and even when she was surprised by a young puma that approached to eat. The beauty of the wild world!
