Project Update July – December
Happy New Year!
As we begin this new year, we would like to sincerely thank you for your support. Thanks to you, during the second half of the year our local CRESCA team continued turning donations into concrete actions for animal welfare and the community of Mulegé.
During this period, we rescued and cared for 36 animals. Each rescue required daily care, veterinary follow-up, and many hours of hands-on work that often happens behind the scenes but makes all the difference.
Spay and neuter efforts remained a top priority. Working alongside partner institutions, we reached a total cumulative impact of 9 00 sterilizations, one of the most effective tools to prevent abandonment and improve community health. In this effort, Baja Mobile Steri-Vet played a key role by bringing their clinics not only throughout our municipality but across Baja California Sur. At the same time, the State Health Department continued performing weekly sterilizations, scheduled by our team and carried out by their medical staff.
We also provided direct support to families. This included temporary care for pets undergoing treatment, helping owners who could not administer medication during work hours. We organized community transportation for owned pets to be sterilized and, as part of our fundraising efforts, provided 43 low-cost cremation services for families who lost their four-legged companions, ensuring dignity and respect during difficult moments.
During the hurricane season, a neighboring community, San Ignacio, was severely affected. In response, and as part of our commitment to solidarity between communities, we sent donated food to support pets and their families in the area, recognizing that animal welfare is also essential during emergencies.
During this semester, we received more than 3,700 kg of donated food. A significant portion consisted of kibble donated by PURINA, while the rest was fresh fish donated by local fishing cooperatives. These resources were used responsibly and efficiently. The donated fish was cooked, dried, and ground into fish meal, which improved the dogs’ daily protein intake and reduced operating costs. At CRESCA, every donation is fully utilized.
We also made important improvements to the center’s infrastructure. We reinforced the foundations of several enclosures, strengthened wooden dog houses, restored shaded areas, reorganized spaces, and installed a new handmade watering system that makes cleaning easier and improves water conservation. A major milestone was access to water: we expanded our storage capacity to 10,000 liters and, with the support of the Municipal Government, achieved a connection to the public water network, allowing us to now have constant access to water.
Our work through partnerships and collaboration continued to grow stronger. We participated in the First Animal Abuse Forum and supported institutional advances that now make reporting cases easier, reflecting a growing local commitment to animal welfare.
None of this would be possible without you.
Your support became daily care, prevention, infrastructure improvements, and better living conditions for animals and the community.
Thank you for being part of this project.
