Introduction
Between February and April 2025, our project focused on empowering adolescents through peer-led leadership, reproductive health education (including HIV testing and counseling), and sustainable climate-friendly livelihood activities. These efforts aimed to improve the health outcomes, decision-making abilities, and resilience of vulnerable adolescents in selected communities and schools in Uganda. By the end of the quarter, a total of 120 adolescents (55 girls, 65 boys) had been reached. The engagement and enthusiasm among youth have demonstrated a strong demand for continued and scaled-up interventions.
Key Activities and Achievements
Peer Leader Training and Engagement
The sessions enhanced peer support and boosted confidence among participants in discussing sensitive health issues.
HIV Testing, Counseling & Reproductive Health Education
Sessions included information on adolescent sexuality, family planning, STI prevention, and life skills.
Youth reported increased confidence in making informed health choices and knowing their HIV status.
Climate-Resilient Livelihood Activities
These activities fostered ownership of green school spaces and introduced adolescents to practical agricultural skills and improved nutrition.
Success Stories
“As a peer leader, I’ve learned to speak in front of others and help my friends understand their health better.” – Peace, 17, Kira Secondary School
Conclusion
The project successfully equipped adolescents with leadership skills, health knowledge, and practical experience in environmental sustainability. Peer-led engagement proved effective in building confidence and strengthening adolescent support systems, while the integration of climate-smart practices inspired youth to take action in their communities. Continued support and resource mobilization will be essential in expanding the reach and sustaining the impact of these initiatives.
