Education is a fundamental pillar of development, yet many rural schools in Sri Lanka, particularly in Welikanda (Polonnaruwa District), struggle with inadequate resources. Limited access to essential school supplies, proper infrastructure, and learning materials poses significant challenges to students' academic growth. This project aims to bridge the gap by providing much-needed support to 5 rural schools in Welikanda, ensuring that students have the tools to succeed.
The core problem facing rural schools in Welikanda is a lack of essential educational resources, infrastructure, and support, which limits students' ability to receive quality education. Here are the key challenges: 1) Many students don't have access to the necessary learning materials 2) These schools often lack proper facilities, including furniture, whiteboards, and other necessities. 3) Teachers in rural areas frequently face challenges due to insufficient resources and teaching aids
Through this project, students in 5 selected remote schools will receive the necessary support to pursue education without many barriers. The initiative will foster academic enthusiasm, improve student performance, and strengthen community engagement in education by supporting infrastructure facilities and equipping schools to overcome the key barriers preventing them from raising standards in education.
Long-term benefits include higher retention rates in five selected remote schools in the Welikanda area and improved educational outcomes for those students. This initiative represents an important step toward uplifting education in rural communities, ensuring that the students of remote schools in Welikanda have the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
