Sri Lanka-known for its beauty and culture-is now grappling with the harsh reality of devastating floods that have wiped out homes, roads, and entire school communities. Educational inequity, already a deep challenge in remote areas, has been made far worse as classrooms, learning materials, and safe spaces for children are damaged or destroyed. What little progress these communities had fought for has been swept away overnight. The need is urgent, the damage is immense and support is critical.
Remote schools in Sri Lanka already operate under immense strain - and the floods have pushed many of these challenges to the brink. They continue to face: (1) Limited Resources: Textbooks, learning materials, and technology were scarce before; now many have been damaged or washed away. (2) Shortage of Qualified Teachers: Recruiting and retaining experienced teachers is difficult - and flood displacement is making this even harder.
