Four New Rooms Ready - And More Progress Ahead!

By Andrea Sedlock | President & Founder

Before (No roof and unfinished first floor)

We’re thrilled to share an exciting milestone in our journey to expand and enhance learning at Rukundo Preparatory School. Thanks to your unwavering support, the first floor of our primary school building has undergone a major transformation—and it’s nearly ready for use!

What’s Been Accomplished

This floor has existed as bare brick walls for some time, but after months of dedicated work, it’s now being transformed into a fully finished, functional, and accessible space for our students and staff.

A New Roof

Accessibility Upgrades:

  • New ramp and staircases built for easier access

  • Guardrails installed on staircases and balconies to ensure safety and inclusivity for students with special needs

Interior & Exterior Finishing for 7 Rooms:

  • Plastered interior and exterior walls

  • Cemented and painted floors in all rooms and corridors

  • Installed electrical wiring, bulbs, and switches

  • Added windows and doors to every room

Four of these seven rooms will be ready for use in time for the third and final school term of 2025 in September—addressing our urgent need for classroom space:

  • Baby (3-year-old) and Middle (4-year-old) nursery classes have been sharing one classroom, leading to overcrowding.

  • Primary 2 has been learning in a small resting room.

  • Primary 6 has been using our Board room.

These new classrooms will give every class its own dedicated learning space. We’ve also added a new Programs Office for staff.

Looking Ahead: If We Reach Our $25,000 Goal

At our October Silent Auction, we’re aiming to raise $25,000 to complete additional critical spaces in time for the 2026 school year (beginning Jan/Feb):

  • A Primary 7 classroom (our first-ever P7, completing the full primary cycle in Uganda!)

  • A dedicated Computer Lab and Library

  • Boarding spaces and bathrooms for P5–P7 learners who need more time to study

  • Matron & Patron’s Office to support student welfare

Why This Matters

  • Our Baby Class will regain its dedicated rest area—no more clearing classroom space daily for naps.

  • All our students will have large, conducive classrooms to encourage creativity and active learning.

  • The new Computer Lab and Library will give students—and other children in the community—essential access to technology and age-appropriate books for the first time.

What’s Next: Phase 2 on the Second Level

While the first floor is nearly complete, work continues on the upper level:
Remaining tasks include:

  • Extending the ramp and staircases to reach the second floor

  • Installing guardrails on balconies and staircases

  • Completing all exterior finishing (plaster, paint, windows, doors)

  • Completing all interior finishing (floors, paint, electricity)

  • Installing bathrooms

Once finished, the second level will feature:

  • Boys’ Boarding Section

  • Common Hall/Dining Area for the school

Thank You for Making This Possible

Your continued support is building more than classrooms—it’s building a safe, inspiring environment where children can learn, grow, and dream. We’re eager to welcome students into their new spaces this September and keep you updated as Phase 2 unfolds.

Together, we’re not just constructing a school.
We’re building a community of opportunity.
