Thanks to generous supporters like you, Temima received life-changing treatment for trachoma, a condition that has left her in searing pain. After repeated infections, her eyelashes had turned inward, scratching the surface of her eye—a condition that had already caused her mother to go blind.
Temima's recent sight-saving eyelid surgery, made possible through Orbis's intervention, has brought her immense relief from pain and eliminated the threat of further sight loss. Without this intervention, Temima faced a high risk of permanent blindness.
Trachoma predominantly affects communities in Ethiopia, where factors such as poor hygiene and sanitation contribute to its spread. Did you know that Women are blinded up to 4 times as often as men, due to their close contact with infected children and their resulting greater frequency of infection episodes.Thanks to advancements in antibiotics and hygiene practices, we are now closer than ever to eliminating this disease entirely.
