Dear Donors and Supporters,

We are pleased to share this update on the progress of our conservation initiative: “Safeguarding of Ethiopia Endemic Walia Ibex." Your continued generosity—especially through GlobalGiving—has been instrumental in moving our mission forward, and we remain deeply grateful for your commitment to this vital cause.

Key Milestones Achieved

Thanks to your support, we have successfully taken tangible steps to enhance the protection of the endangered Ethiopian Wolf, a species found only in the highlands of Ethiopia and recognized as one of the rarest canids in the world.

  • Ranger Support and Equipment Provision: We have equipped six dedicated National Park Rangers operating across three national parks with new uniforms, protective footwear, and essential field clothing. These front-line defenders play a critical role in monitoring wolf populations, deterring poaching, and safeguarding their fragile habitats.

A major pillar of our progress has been the formation of strong, sustainable partnerships with local stakeholders—ranging from community leaders and environmental groups to local park authorities. These relationships are fostering a deeper sense of ownership and responsibility within the communities themselves. Through regular dialogue and joint action plans, we are embedding conservation practices into local customs and values. This integrated approach is essential to ensuring the long-term survival of not only the Ethiopian Wolf but also other iconic endemic species such as the Walia Ibex and the Gelada, Ethiopia’s unique Old World monkey.

Challenges and the Road Ahead

While funding remains a constraint, the progress we’ve made—particularly in local capacity-building and ranger support—has laid a solid foundation for scalable, long-term conservation. Our ability to bring communities and conservationists together is one of the most promising signs for lasting impact.

With your continued support, we are optimistic that we can broaden the reach of this project, enhance habitat protections, and strengthen enforcement mechanisms across the Ethiopian Highlands.

Final Words

On behalf of the entire team, thank you once again for your unwavering support. You are not just donors—you are partners in this mission. Together, we are giving the Ethiopian Wolf and other endemic species a fighting chance for survival.

With deep gratitude,

MHO Team
