Weekend Feeding Program January 2026 Update

By Alfred Muheria Aswan | Program Liaison

Dear friends,

I hope this message find you all well. We have accomplished so much since we reopened school after the long November - December holiday break.

In January of this year and the first week of February 6,022 children have been served. These are not just numbers but a representation of children who did not have to fend for themselves due to food shortages at home.

The first week of February saw us welcome a group of volunteers, our first for this year and thet were able to take part in the weekend feeding program where 1,652 chhildren were fed reminding us all of the power of volunteering and its positive impact for our school and the community.

The country is currently experiencing seevere drought in some parts due to liitle or no rain. In as much as the most affected areas are the Arid and semi arid areas the effects are also faced by many who live in informal seetlements like Kibagare where we are located characterised by rising food prices and high inflation. National food shortages drive the prices of commodities and food prices in informal settlememts negatively affecting many residents living there and the most affected are children who have very little to chose from.

Without the feeding program,

  • Most children will miss out on a meal over the weekend and forced to go out and fend for themselves
  • Some children may end up in the streets exposed to exploitation, abuse and other dangers
  • Some children may miss out on school

Our weekend feeding program runs for the duration the children are in school and currently we are serving approximately 1600 children every weekend who are vulnerable. This proram helps keep the children safe, supports their well being, education and ensures that the children are valued and dignifified. Aloowing them to be children.

We appreciate the continued support towards this program and the much we have been able tp achieve and continue to achieve thanks to the support we receive. We will keep you updated on our progress.

With Gratitude,

Alfred M Aswani

Program Liaison.
