Mama Neema used to spend half her income on toxic charcoal that made her children cough. Today, we are equipping Goma's local producers to turn biodegradable waste into clean eco-charcoal. This project provides 5,000 households with sustainable green energy, stops illegal logging in nearby forests, and cleans city streets. Your support buys the machinery needed to scale this renewable energy solution, cutting deadly smoke and protecting our climate.
Goma is facing an energy crisis. Over 90% of households rely on wood charcoal, leading to massive illegal logging and forest degradation. This reliance accelerates global warming and exposes women and children to dangerous indoor air pollution. Without an affordable, renewable energy alternative, the lungs of our planet and the lungs of our children will continue to suffer.
We are upgrading our production facility to convert household waste into high-quality eco-charcoal briquettes. By providing industrial grinders and carbonization kilns, we will triple our output. This makes green energy more available and cheaper than wood charcoal. Our approach cleans the city streets of waste, creates jobs for youth, and provides a sustainable energy source that requires zero trees to be cut down.
This project creates a circular economy that will protect thousands of hectares of forest over the next decade. By shifting the market toward eco-charcoal, we reduce Goma's carbon footprint and build community resilience against climate change. As the project grows, it serves as a model for urban Africa, proving that cities can power themselves by recycling what they used to throw away.
