It is back to school in Thailand as the new academic year begins. All of our students were very excited to start a new year and of course see all of their friends again. We have students ranging from preschool all the way through to university level and many of them come from homes where the illiteracy rate is high. This makes attending school challenging beginning with the lack of finances to purchase, books, uniforms and supplies and the shame that comes from this lack. Often the solutions for familiues is not to send their child to school; however it is illegal not to send your child to school until gradfe 9. If families repeatedly refuse to sebnd their child to school, social welfare will intervene which often results in children being removed from the family. Not because they are not loved, but because they cannot afford education. Scholarship give children and their families a hope for the future.
In addition to this childrern whose parents and caregivers have not had a chance to receive an education often do not have enough literacy to assist with homework, are unable to fill in forms and respond to messages. These complications sometimes cause students to lag bewhind their peers academically.
Handf to hand not only provides monetry support but we also assist weekly on a Saturday with homework help, Engliah classes and computer classes. Students can have access to computers and prionters to do their homework and also ask for help.
We keep close contact with the parents and school to ensure any problems that arise are addressed as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support.
