In Nyamira County, Kenya, alarming teen pregnancy rates force girls to abandon education. Hope Foundation for African Women will empower 300 teen mothers (ages 13-18) through education access, mental health support, parenting skills, and economic training. Working with communities, schools, and leaders, HFAW will help these young mothers rebuild their lives with dignity while holding perpetrators accountable and campaigning to end this crisis.
In Nyamira, villages face a crisis with up to 300 teen pregnancies in single communities. Pregnant girls are forced from school and face stigma, rejection, and trauma with minimal support. Economic dependence exposes them to exploitation, GBV, and repeat pregnancies. Their children face malnutrition and neglect. Without intervention, teen motherhood becomes a permanent barrier to education, employment, and social inclusion-perpetuating poverty cycles.
HFAW will provide psychosocial counseling, peer support, school reentry assistance, and vocational training. Teen mothers will receive parenting education, reproductive health information, financial literacy training, and seed capital for micro-enterprises. Continuous mentorship ensures sustained progress. The program engages parents, health professionals, and local leaders to support participants and end the crisis through community-wide advocacy and accountability.
Teen mothers will transition to independence, supporting themselves and raising healthier children. Education and income-generation build confidence and informed decision-making, reducing repeat vulnerabilities. The project shifts community attitudes, replacing stigma with support. Over time, this creates stronger families, better child outcomes, reduced intergenerational poverty, and drastically ends child motherhood in Nyamira County.
