Dear friends,
We are writing this update with heavy hearts from Tela, Honduras.
After years of hard work, sacrifice, and love, we recently finished building our beautiful new shelter for the rescued dogs of Perros Sin Nombre. It was meant to be a safe haven — a place of healing, protection, and second chances.
But nature had other plans.
Severe Flooding Has Overwhelmed Our Shelter
In the past days, intense storms and heavy rains caused severe inundations in our area. Our shelter overflowed twice. Water entered areas that had never flooded before, putting our infrastructure — and our animals — at serious risk.
Just when the water levels began to go down and we thought the worst had passed, another disaster struck:
A large tree fell during the storm, destroying:
A section of our perimeter fence
Part of one of our shelter structures/buildings
This damage leaves our dogs less protected and the facility structurally compromised.
We Are Currently Cut Off
To make matters even more difficult, the bridge that connects us to the shelter has been washed away by the storm. At this moment:
We have very limited or no communication with the shelter area
Access for vehicles, supplies, and support is extremely restricted
Rebuilding and emergency repairs are much harder and more expensive
We are doing everything we can to reach the dogs, ensure their safety, and assess the full extent of the damage.
They Finally Had a Safe Place… Now It’s at Risk
These dogs have already survived abandonment, neglect, and life on the streets. The new shelter represented hope, stability, and protection.
Now we urgently need help to:
Rebuild the damaged fence
Repair the broken structure/building
Improve drainage and protections against future flooding
Restore safe access and continue caring for the animals
We Cannot Do This Alone
We are asking our GlobalGiving family to stand with us during this crisis. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us:
Keep the dogs safe
Rebuild what the storm destroyed
Strengthen the shelter against future rains
This is not just about repairs — it’s about protecting hundreds of lives that depend entirely on us.
From all of us in Honduras, and from every rescued dog who now calls this place home… thank you for being part of their second chance.
We will continue to share updates as soon as communication and access improve.
With gratitude and hope,
Diana Gutierrez
