In the recent year of the project, Prabodhini has made remarkable strides in reaching even more target groups — offering them hope, strength, and a sense of empowerment.
One of the most moving achievements has been the introduction of self-defense courses for young girls, some as young as 10 to 12 years old. These sessions help them recognize their physical strength and ability to protect themselves. With this newfound confidence, many girls are learning to stand up for themselves — whether in the classroom or in everyday life — and discovering just how capable they truly are.
But the initiative didn’t stop there.
Self-defense training was also brought to schools attended by daughters of sex workers and women working as street cleaners — girls who face particularly high risks of violence and marginalization. For them, these courses have been life-changing, equipping them not only with practical skills but also with the courage to claim their space in the world.
This work highlights a powerful truth: all girls — no matter their background — deserve to feel safe, strong, and supported.
Let’s continue building a just and secure future for girls and women in India — one where self-defense is not just a skill, but a symbol of self-worth and independence.
